The construction of a 275/132kV transmission line and substation in Ampang to reinforce the National Grid System is proceeding smoothly without complaints from residents. This is in complete contrast to the protests by Cheras residents over a similar project in their locality some time ago. Councillor Meor Rithuan Mohamed Said said the project started about a year ago.
“The only complaints I have received so far are about the noise and dust due to the construction of a substation in Kampung Pandan Dalam. I have highlighted this to Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and asked that the contractor adheres to scheduled working hours.”
Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) public relations officer Norhayati Ahmad said they have not received any complaints over the project.
“The only time we were involved in the project was when TNB wanted help in organizing a dialogue session with the residents,” she said, adding that the project was on TNB reserve land. “There were some squatters and small workshops on the land but as we were not involved, we do not know what happened to them,” Norhayati said.
“The project will improve the existing electrical system in Ampang and Klang Valley. The line starts from the Ampang East main intake and ends at Kampung Pandan main intake,” said TNB corporate affairs and communications vice-president Adelina Iskandar.
She said the latter was currently being constructed along Jalan Pandan Kemajuan A and was expected to be completed by the end of this year. As for the former, Adelina said it would be constructed after the transmission line was completed early next year.
“The main intake serves as a switching station transmitting 275 and 132kV to the National Grid System,” she added.
