Solar Power Projects Under Development in Mandalay

The first-ever solar power generating projects will be built in Mandalay Region and its power consumption is 150 kyat per unit, Minister Dr. Myint Kyu of Mandalay Region Electric Power and Industry said.

“We planned four places for the generation of 1,000 MW. The first place is near Nabuai village, the second in Kabaw Mountain in Kyaukse Township, the third, between Wandwin and Shawpin villages and the last between Meikhtila and Myingyan Township. We have to make a plan to build 250 MW projects in four places. We are making the plans to carry out the construction tasks according to laws and by-laws. The Myanmar Investment Commission also agreed to the plans laid down by the ministry of electric power,” Myint Kyu said.

A total of 1, 000 MW solar power will be generated in four places. The first place is designated in Myingyan to generate is 250 MW. The generated solar power will be combined with the national power grid and it will be sold out to the public with 150 kyats per unit. Mandalay Region Government and ACO (Investment Group) from USA signed MoU at the Mandalay Region Government office on February 8 to jointly generate solar power on a basis of profit-sharing scheme.
