PUB Calls Tender for Groundwater Extraction
National water agency PUB is looking into the possibility of groundwater extraction to enhance the long-term sustainability of Singapore’s water resources.
PUB is calling a tender for hydrogeology consultancy services to study the possibility and potential of tapping naturally occurring aquifers and other underground water sources in an area known as Jurong Formation, which includes Jurong, Clementi, Bukit Merah, Choa Chu Kang, Lim Chu Kang and Kranji. An aquifer is an underground rock layer through which water can easily pass, allowing for extraction of groundwater.
Aquifers may occur at different depths, and are broadly classified into two categories: unconfined aquifers, which are typically found closer to the surface and thus collect water seepage from the surface, and confined aquifers, which are deeper and separated from the surface by a low-permeability layer or a layer that discourages water passage.
