Poyry Awarded Owner’s Engineer Services Assignment for Van Phong 1 Power Plant

Poyry has been awarded the owner’s engineer services assignment for the Van Phong 1 2×660 MW coal-fired power plant project in Vietnam by Sumitomo Corporation.

Van Phong 1 is a coal-fired power plant project consisting of two similar blocks, each block including a once-through pulverised coal fired steam generator and a steam turbine. The project will use supercritical steam values, which improves the plant efficiency and reduces emissions from the power plant compared to traditional subcritical design.

Poyry will support the project owner Sumitomo Corporation during the project development and 53 month implementation period as the owner’s engineer. Poyry’s assignment includes assistance in EPC and O&M contracting, design review, and supervision of construction and commissioning.

“We are pleased to assist Sumitomo in this important project which will be one of the most efficient coal-fired power plants in Vietnam. This project is a good example of the value added that Poyry can provide for large power projects in Asia due to its strong local office network and more than 40 years of experience in the region”, says Petteri Harkki, President Asia Pacific and Middle East, Energy Business Group.

Poyry is one of the leading power sector consulting engineering companies in Asia Pacific and is currently involved in the development and implementation of more than 10,000 MW of coal-fired power generation capacity in the region. The value of the assignment is not disclosed. The project has been included in Energy Business Group’s second quarter 2013 order stock.
