Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) and construction company Daelim Industrial have jointly secured a contract to supply an ultra-supercritical-pressure boiler to the proposed 1,000MW Shinseocheon thermal power plant in South Korea.
Being developed by Korea Midland Power (Komipo) at a site approximately 200km south of Seoul, in the Seocheon County of Chungcheong Province, the coal-fired power plant is planned to be commissioned in 2019.
Earlier this week, MHPS signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with another subsidiary of Kepco, Korea Southern Power (Kospo), to exchange thermal power generation related technology.
Under the MoU, the firms intend to promote technical collaboration and joint research between MHPS and Kospo, and have technological liaison with Korea’s Yonsei University.
MHPS also partnered with Daelim Industrial earlier for the construction of power plants in the country.
In May, MHPS and Marubeni have secured a contract to deliver two M501J gas turbines and a steam turbine to power the 950MW Pyeongtaek gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) power plant in South Korea.
As part of the contract, MHPS will manufacture and supply gas and steam turbines, as well as provide manpower to support their installation.
Under a separate deal, MHPS is also supplying two M501GAC gas turbines for Komipo’s combined heat and power supply plant in Seoul.
The country, in June, decided to scrap the development of four coal power plants, which have a combined power generation capacity of 3,740MW,
