JA Solar and DuPont Collaborate on Cypress Panel Design

DuPont Microcircuit Materials and JA Solar Holdings Co., Ltd., recently collaborated to achieve a reported 19.4% solar cell efficiency. JA Solar’s 6-inch monocrystalline Cypress modules in a 60-cell format now generate a maximum power output of 270W and a conversion efficiency of 16.51%; its 6-inch full-square monocrystalline modules in a 60-cell format generate a maximum power output of 280W and a conversion efficiency of 17.12%; and its 6-inch multicrystalline modules generate a maximum power output of 260W and a conversion efficiency of 15.90%.

Cypress modules generate a power output approximately 10W above the industry average, the company reports, and feature unparalleled reliability and power-induced degradation resistance.

The new JA Solar Cypress solar module is made with DuPont Solamet photovoltaic metallization paste materials. Advances in Solamet metallizations have doubled the efficiency of solar cells over the last 12 years, and are expected to continue to help the industry in its efforts to reach a new goal of 22% efficiency in 2015.

JA Solar’s new Cypress solar panels are made with monocrystalline solar cells and an advanced diffusion process. DuPont reports that the most advanced Solamet photovoltaic metallization paste helps to reduce recombination at the interface with the solar cell that produces optimal conversion efficiency in a conventional cell manufacturing process without additional capital investment.

Because of their unique chemistry, the most advanced Solamet photovoltaic metallization paste materials have exceeded expectations in both monocrystalline and multicrystalline solar cell technologies, and can enable enhanced lightly doped emitter (LDE) technology that has the potential to take efficiency to the next level, the company reports.  The pastes also are designed for fine line printing and can help to improve adhesion by as much as 15%.
