Spanish wind energy company Gamesa has announced installation of its first wind turbine in Thailand, and a 100 MW contract for Amazon.com’s Ohio wind farm.
Announced on Tuesday, Gamesa revealed that it had installed its first G114-2.0 MW wind turbine in the Asia-Pacific region, at the Subplu1 wind farm being developed in Thailand. The project was originally announced back in July of 2015, with Gamesa being awarded the contract to supply 30 of its G114-2.0 MW wind turbines in its inaugural project in Thailand. Gamesa will supply its turbines to three wind farms, which are all scheduled for commissioning in 2016 — at which time Gamesa will begin maintaining all three facilities for a period of 10 years.
A day later, Gamesa announced that it had been awarded a contract for 48 of its G114-2.1 MW turbines to supply the 100 MW Amazon Wind Farm U.S. Central, which is being developed by EDP Renewables in Paulding County, Ohio.
Gamesa will begin delivering the turbines in the second quarter of 2016, and the wind farm is expected to reach construction completion by the end of 2016, and begin generating enough electricity to power more than 29,000 US homes (but will in fact be provided to supply Amazon’s nearby data center).
This is not the first time Gamesa has been chosen to work with Amazon: In July, Gamesa was awarded the contract to supply Amazon’s largest renewable energy project to date. The 208 MW Amazon Wind Farm US East, being developed by Iberdrola Renewables, will be supplied with 104 of Gamesa’s 114-2.0 MW turbines on the same timetable as Amazon’s Ohio wind farm.
