Enel Wins 285MW in Indian Wind Tender

• Enel, through its subsidiary BLP Energy, has been awarded the right to sign a 25-year energy supply contract for a wind energy project under National Competitive Bidding;
• Enel will be investing over 290 million US dollars in the construction of this project located in the State of Gujarat.

Enel, through its Indian renewable subsidiary BLP Energy Private Limited (“BLP Energy”), has won its first ever renewable energy tender in the country with the awarding of the right to sign a 25-year energy supply contract for a 285 MW wind farm in the State of Gujarat. The project was awarded under the Fourth Tranche of the 2 GW national wind tender issued by the government company Solar Energy Corporation of India (“SECI”).

“We are very pleased about this first tender award in India,” said Antonio Cammisecra, Head of Enel’s Global Renewable Energies Division Enel Green Power. “With this award, we have made an important step forward in strengthening and consolidating our presence in a country we consider strategic. Looking ahead, we are planning to expand further in India, which will also serve as a platform for growth throughout the overall Asia Pacific region, fully leveraging on the huge availability of renewable resources and growing energy demand of this area.”

Enel will be investing more than 290 million US dollars in the construction of this wind farm, which will be supported by a contract for the sale of specified volumes of energy over a 25-year period to SECI.

The project, which is expected to start operations in the second half of 2019, will be able to generate more than 1,000 GWh of renewable energy every year, making a significant contribution to both India’s need for new power generation capacity and the country’s environmental goals. The current Indian government has set a target of achieving 100 GW of solar and 60 GW of wind power generation capacity by 2022, up from around 20 GW of solar and about 33 GW of wind today.

Enel (enel.com), through BLP Energy (blp.co.in), one of India’s leading renewable energy companies, owns and operates 172 MW of wind capacity producing around 340 GWh per year in Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Enel Green Power, the Renewable Energies division of Enel Group, is dedicated to the development and operation of renewables across the world, with a presence in Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa and Oceania. Enel Green Power is a global leader in the green energy sector with a managed capacity of around 41 GW across a generation mix that includes wind, solar, geothermal, biomass and hydropower, and is at the forefront of integrating innovative technologies into renewable power plants.

  • Axial Flow Helical Bladed Wind Turbine Technology for Offshore Installation

    Appa Technology Initiatives is developing, innovative wind energy technology to convert wind energy into electrical power using energy efficient and low cost wind turbine technology such as those described in our patent: US 9,537,371 B2, Jan 3, 2017.

    Please contact us for additional details.

  • The suggested Axial Flow Helical Bladed rotor can be designed for 50 MW rated units at far less (~<1/3 ) that of the conventional radial bladed rotor.
    The power performance of the suggested rotor can be evaluated using the CFD model at minimum cost.

    I will be available for any discussion and possible working together on the improved rotor design.

    As of today the conventional radial bladed rotor can produce 12 MW/unit at large cost and weight penalty - A long way from the DOE estimated 50 MW rated unit.
    Ref. US 9,537,371 B2. (Appa)

  • Our Axial Helical Flow Rotor Design is energy efficient and low cost of energy versus the conventional Radial Bladed rotor design. The power performance , weight and unit cost can quickly be evaluated using a CFD simulation tool.

    In such a big project it is worthwhile verifying the available technologies. So far the wind energy industry is mainly dependent on the radial bladed rotor, which is good for the units power rated < 10 MW. When we are discussing the 50 MW rated unit, it is better to consider other options.
    I am available to discuss the details of our suggested rotor.
