APGenco receive final approval from the Ministry for three 800 MW supercritical projects

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N.Kiran Kumar Reddy has directed APGenco to commence work on three projects with total installed capacity of 2,400 MW.

These projects will be based on supercritical technology and have capacity of 800 MW each.

APGenco was asked to complete these thermal power stations in the State within three years.

The total cost of these three thermal power stations is expected to be about Rs 13,200 crore. These power plants will be setup at Krishnapatnam in Nellore district (new), a greenfield plant and expansion at existing power plants at Vijayawada and Kothagudem Thermal Stations.

Following a meeting last week, the Chief Minister approved the setting up of the new thermal station at Krishnapatnam and the remaining two were approved earlier.

It is expected that these three projects will provide employment to about 1,200 people covering engineering staff to workers. The State Government has already given coal linkage to Vijayawada and Kothagudem power stations and coal will be imported for Krishnapatnam thermal station.

The required land, water and other facilities for setting up of these stations have already been provided for APGenco.

With most clearances now in place, the State Government is keen that they are rapidly implemented to augment capacity.
