With many thermal power projects in the state taking a hit following the government’s hands-off policy on land acquisition and fluctuation in coal prices, the West Bengal State Electricity Development Corporation (WBSEDCL) has annouced descison of how it is turning to hydro power.
This will also help the utility balance the dip in power demand during off-peak periods with the sharp hike during the evening peak when the state encounters a deficit in summer and has to import power. It will also increase the ratio of non-coal energy in the state’s power basket.
