Al Ghubrah Desalination to Use ERI Energy Recovery Devices

Energy Recover Inc is to supply its PX Q300 Pressure Exchanger® technology for the Al Ghubrah seawater desalination plant in Oman.

EPC contractor International Water Treatment LLC, formed by Cadagua, Wabag and Galfar, chose PX technology to ensure efficient, reliable energy recovery to overcome the challenges of seawater processing in Oman.

Oman’s first independent water project, set up by the Muscat City Desalination Company formed by Cadagua, Malakoff and Sumitomo, will involve a 190,000 m³/d reverse-osmosis desalination plant constructed on a build-own-operate basis over a 20‑year period. There will be eight 30,000 m³/d trains.

Commercial operation is expected to start in September 2014.
